What is the Opportunity?
Due to an internal promotion, we are looking for a superstar Production Manager for our Dairy Plant in Longburn, Manawatu.
As the Production Manager, you will play a key role in driving best practice manufacturing and provide key leadership on process efficiency/innovation.
Key responsibilities include:
Leadership
- Regularly reviewing the performance of lines with Team Leaders
- Setting in place corrective actions and following up with team members to ensure completion, providing accurate and timely information to management to enable quick resolution of issues and maintaining high product standards through rigid enforcement of site guidelines
Quality
- Ensure the team is completely focused on producing safe and superior products for our customers
- Understand customer food safety standards and ensure compliance
- Support regular audits and ensure corrective actions are completed on time
- Ensures compliance with required Quality, GMP, Hygiene and Food Safety policies, standards and procedures
- Drive improvement projects to improve product quality, develop quality engagement and a culture of continuous improvement
Operational Effectiveness
- Manages people, plant and materials to ensure targeted efficiency levels are achieved (these measures include productivity, line utilisation/downtime, waste %/reduction target, OEE, quality, safety and DIFOT)
- Ensures all measurement systems are implemented and maintained as required
- Leads production lines working to capacity requirements and set timelines
- Ensures acceptable manufacturing standards are understood and maintained by all production staff
- Ensures all reporting requirements are supplied in an accurate and on-time manner
- Completes continuous improvement projects as agreed with the Manufacturing Manager
Health & Safety
- Be an advocate and champion for ‘Never Walk by' through own behaviours. Ensure team compliance to Occupational Health and Safety Policy, Safety Health and Environment procedures and legislative requirements
- Embrace methodologies to sustain behaviours and processes that support a safety culture of zero incidents
- Drive improvement projects to remove critical risks and ensure continual improvement in HSE
- Ensures all employees and contracted individuals are fully trained and adequately supervised
A little more information about the role
- In this role, you will be looking after both Beverages and Foods, responsible for filling and packing milk, cream, flavoured milk, juice, yoghurt, cultured foods, dairy dessert custard etc.
- There are 10 main fillers within the production area producing over 110 million L/kgs of product each year
- Two Team Leaders reporting to this role with approximately 70 indirect reports
- As the Production Manager, ideally, we would like you to cover Mon-Friday. However, we would be open to Sun-Thurs.
- We are a Dairy plant, so learning about Dairy in NZ is a great asset to have, a daily fresh business with 200 skus – so you won't get bored as there is always something happening and always something new!
- You can also gain a diploma in Dairy which is a recognised industry qualification

About You
- Proven manufacturing experience in the food industry
- Experience of managing/coaching others
- Food Technology, Engineering or Science Degree (desirable)
- A focus on quality and food safety
- Machine operation and/or engineering management practice
- Experience or participation in project management
- Planning, prioritisation and process management competence
- Organising competence
